I’m going to be on TV tomorrow!

Apparently, there’s some kind of Motocross show going on near Syracuse tomorrow and the NBC crew that is filming it came to the campus today to shoot some footage. They happened to see the eight tour guides all clumped together talking and since we were already decked out in orange and clearly the peppiest people in the group, they had us film some footage for them where we’d say “YOU’RE WATCHING MOTOCROSS ON NBC. GO SYRACUSE!” and then endlessly cheer for a few seconds.

So yeah, I’ll be on NBC, Speed and some other random channel on Saturday at some point. Watch meh.

Awkward Pause

This summer has been such an awkward pause for me. On one hand, I’m pretty sure this is the busiest, and arguably, most productive I’ve been between the months of June and August. On the other hand, I feel like I’ve done absolutely nothing.

College goes by quickly, yeah yeah yeah, whatever. But it does! And as much as I’m counting down the days until I can get back into my go to class, go to work, weekend routine, I’m secretly dreading it.

Why? Because it’s the last time I’ll be doing it. I’m holding on to this summer because it’s the last one before I wake up in the real world. I know just how fast time goes by once classes start and once I’m back working 60-80 hours a week. I’m starting my senior year of college. Class of 2012 once seemed like forever away but in a few months, it is 2012. And a few months after that, it’s May. I’ll be standing inside the Carrier Dome looking around and wondering what the hell happened.

But I’m also bored out of my mind. I want everyone to come back. I want places to go on the weekend. I want to stay up until 5AM on a Saturday and regret it until 5PM on Sunday.

I guess the best case scenario would be the year starts and goes by at a mind numbingly slow pace. Because even that will be too fast.

Driving Back to Syracuse

At this point, I’ve made the drive between Long Island and Syracuse close to a dozen times. Ever since I could bring my car on campus, I’ve been driving home for long breaks and summer vacation. The drive itself isn’t hard, it’s just really boring. You basically go on three main roads and stay on them for 100 mile clips. It’s awful. As I was driving up, I realized I go through some serious driving mood swings.

4:00AM - Okay, let’s do this.

5:00AM - This actually isn’t that bad, I can do this.

6:00AM - I’m tired. My back is starting to hurt. Maybe I’ll pull over soon.

7:00AM - This is actually never going to end. I’m going to be driving FOREVER.

8:00AM - I’ll stop at the next rest stop. (Next rest stop - 80 miles.)

9:00AM - So close! I’ll just power through.

Oh wow, it’s really warming up now!

Oh wow, it’s really warming up now!

Pheww. I was starting to get worried. 6” of snow on the ground before tomorrow is over. Nice.

I would just like to take a moment to point out how absolutely amazing it is outside right now.

This is just not okay.

This is just not okay.

You’re Double Parked

So, I’m back in Syracuse and already had my first aggravting experience to complain about. So, my friend Erin came to pick us up from the airport and she had parked next to a car, but her car was on and she was in it. I quickly tried to throw the bags in the back, but one got stuck so we were fixing it so we could close the trunk.

All of a sudden this Syracuse Police truck comes up behind us with his lights on and starts blaring his siren. Now this went on and he kept blaring his sired and kept it going and then opened his window and screamed our “You’re double parked. Move it along” so Erin got back in the car but he kept his siren on and kept flashing his headlights and the police lights.

Then as I went to the side of the car he drove by and was clapping at us saying “took you long enough” and “get out of the way” and “good job, congratulations” to us. I was SO angry. I really wanted to find his badge number and get him fired or at least in trouble.

Syracuse Police Department, Aviation Enforcement Division will be receiving a letter from me in the coming days.

Here Comes The Bus

So today I got my roommate and housing information from Syracuse. Finally! Anyway, I wasn’t where I expected I would be. I’m in Dellplain Hall which is on the West side of campus, in between Marshall Street (Parties!) and University Place (the Main Drag). The only problem is it is literally on the opposite corner of the map from Syracuse Stage, which is where all my classes are. So, I’m going to become very familiar with the bus. From what I understand is the bus service they have is amazing, and it’ll drop me off right in front of my hall. It’s also pretty convenient so in the cold weather I’ll make good use of it…so basically all year? If not, it’s about a fifteen minute walk which really isn’t all that bad. We’ll see what happens when I get there.

I’m not worried though. My friend Traci is a few floors below me in the same building which is AWESOME. I’m so excited to already know someone and since we have the exact same schedule, it’ll work out pretty well. I’m also right across the street from my peer advisor who is in Walnut Hall. She’s also a SM so I’m sure I’ll see her a lot too. Two of the other SMs are on the other side of campus at BBB (Boland/Brewster/Brockway) which is technically “closest” to Syracuse Stage but it’s really really off the main campus. It has a taco bell though!

Anyway, I’m pretty excited. It seems so much more real now that I have an address and a roommate. My roommate’s name is Travers and he seems pretty cool. I can tell you more, but since I haven’t actually talked to him yet, that’d be weird. Facebook makes me so creepy! I didn’t realize how easy it is for people to find out information about you. I’m hoping he doesn’t hate me! Haha, oh well we’ll see what happens!

Tomorrow I get to reserve my move-in time slot. I’m planning on stalking the website until it’s time so that I can get one of the few passes for August 20th, since there’ll be less of a rush and I can get settled the first night without all the craziness, or just take two days to get all my stuff in which would be nice.

Still No Roommate, Still No Place To Live

How sad did that title sound? OH well, it’s fitting for my current mood. Yeah, Syracuse lied and they still haven’t sent out the information on where my dorm room is and who my roommate is. Everyone of the 2,156 people in the Syracuse Class of 2012 group on Facebook are freaking out.

I think I just want to know where I am more than who I’m with, since where I am will impact my life so much more than some random person that I’m living with, though it could be potentially terrible if that person is (1) an abercombie model or (2) a crackhead. I don’t dislike Abercrombie but that person would visually intimidate me and my mom pointed out that a crackhead probably wouldn’t spend $50,000/yr. to go to college.

Anyway… thats about it. No it’s not, but that’s all that I can fit under this title.
