This is such an awesome feature! I had 8.6GB of music on my iPad and checked this box and the same amount of songs now is only 3.4GB. Sure, the quality may be reduced slightly but this is okay because: the change only effects the device you’re syncing with, so your high quality songs remain that way on your iTunes and wherever else you sync to.  I don’t need MEGA SUPER high quality music on my iPad, it’s for casual use only.  I only have a 16GB iPad so the space saving is awesome.
