My Magic Mouse finally arrived today. I’ve been hearing a lot of mixed reviews about it and was really worried that I was going to totally hate it. Like most (all) Apple products, the packaging was awesome and made me so happy. The mouse was encased in a plastic clear box that held it in place.

After unboxing it, I turned it on and it was quickly discovered by my Macbook. When I went to change the settings, I was startled to see none. I forgot that a software update had been released and after about two minutes of installing, I was up and running.
The system preference pane for it was similar to that of the trackpad one. It had a little embedded video that explained how to use the gestures.
The overall feel of the mouse is awesome, for me anyway. Some people say the mouse feels too small, but I think it fits in my hand well. It’s definitely smaller than the Mighty Mouse - it doesn’t have a higher back end so it takes some getting used to.
The scrolling is awesome! A “momentum” option, creates a slowly decreasing scroll when you let go of the mouse. If you’re not a fan of that, it can also be set up to stop instantly, much like an old-fashioned scroll wheel.
The two-finger gestures are “cool”, but a little awkward. I see no real advantage to them and wish there was a little more to it such as pinching and a more intelligent zoom. The ones they have, which allow rotating through photos, webpages or emails, it cool but I guess I’m not used to doing it, so I usually don’t.
That’s about it. After an hour or two of playing, I went back to my Mighty Mouse and it felt so strange. Good job Apple!
